The LCP Has Been Nominated For An Emmy!
The LCP’s now on Twitter! Follow us at http://www.twitter.com/thelcp to receive LCP news and updates like this one in real time!
Last spring, the LCP wrote, co-wrote and were featured in several MTV3 commercials as well as a series of “Rants” commenting on Latino life and culture (scroll down: several of the spots are posted below). The campaign ran from September 2008 to January 2009.
We’re grateful to MTV Tres producer David Grad and director Michel Rothschild for inviting us to work on the campaign. LCP spent a fun weekend in early 2008 brainstorming ideas with David and Michel, while the shoot itself came many months later. For a group like the LCP that relishes pushing things too far, the challenge was to help David and Michel create an amusing and culturally relevant campaign that wouldn’t get them both fired. Eventually, we contributed a couple of vignette ideas while our monologue-style “Rant” scripts were shot, surprisingly, pretty much as-written. The shoot was three light-hearted days of laughter amongst ourselves and the crew. And while the LCP like to think of ourselves as “talented”, we weren’t quite used to being referred to on a set as “The Talent.” But I’m sure we could get used to it.

We didn’t even know the Emmys had a category for whatever it is we did. Nevertheless, LCP member names were listed individually as we were nominated in this incredibly sexy-sounding category:
“OUTSTANDING PROMOTIONAL ANNOUNCEMENT - INSTITUTIONAL”
COMEDY CAMPAIGN MTV TR3S
DAVID GRAD, PRODUCER
MICHEL ROTHSCHILD, DIRECTOR, WRITER
DANU URIBE, WRITER
ADRIAN VILLEGAS, WRITER
GUILLERMO DELEON, WRITER
KARINNA PEREZ, WRITER
IAN GELFAND, WRITER
MICAL TREJO, WRITER
SANDY AVILA, WRITER
NICK WALKER, WRITER
The other nominees included campaigns by MTVU, Nickelodeon’s “Noggin”, and “The Ellen Degeneres Show.”The aftermath of the nomination within the LCP has been interesting. Now that some in the group are officially “Emmy-nominated” writers, they suddenly expect to be paid in money. Some are even coming to writing meetings wearing J-Lo shades, fur coats and carrying teacup poodles. And that’s just Nick and Guillermo.
